How is the storage fee calculated?

  • Updated

Storage fees are calculated starting from the check-in date and are billed in 7-day intervals, ending on the day the package leaves the warehouse. The storage fee is calculated using the following formula:

Storage Fee = Chargeable Weight × Storage Days × $0.01

The Chargeable Weight  is the greater of the actual weight and the dimensional weight of the package.

The warehouse will record the actual weight of the package, while the dimensions will be based on FedEx’s measurements.

Additionally, please note that FedEx rounds up all dimension measurements.
For instance, if your manual measurement shows 12.3 inches, the FedEx scanner will record it as 13 inches, not 12.

Dimensional weight is calculated as: (Length × Width × Height) /139。

The calculation result is always rounded up. For example, if the formula yields 100.21 lbs, the chargeable weight will be 101 lbs.

If the package dimensions recorded after check-in differ from the original dimensions, it may be due to the following factors:

  1. Deformation Due to Packaging Pressure:
When a package is tightly packed with many items, it may bulge or deform. International couriers such as FedEx use professional optical scanners to measure package dimensions. These scanners calculate the distance by detecting the two farthest points in each direction.
For example, if a box bulges outward in the middle after being packed, the system will measure from the most protruding points, which may result in larger recorded dimensions.
  2. Deformation During Transit:
Packages may also become compressed or deformed during transportation, causing the actual dimensions to differ from the original box size.
